How to store the rug
As summer approaches, rugs, especially long-pile ones, become uncomfortable and cause rashes. So, it is time to put them away, and you have to know how to do it to keep moths away and to prevent bad odors and the entry of dirt until the cold returns.
Storing the rug in 5 steps
- Before storing the rug, clean it properly and vacuum
all its corners.
- The smell of pepper keeps moths away, and using it is a
great, practical, inexpensive homemade trick to achieve what we are
looking for. Take black peppercorns and fill several breathable or
perforated bags with them. You can also put them in plastic bags and pierce
them with scissors, making holes large enough to release the smell, so the
grains do not come out. Naphthalene also works for us, but it is more
expensive than pepper and less effective. Depending on the rug size, we
will have to fill more or fewer rug storage bag since they must be distributed in rows with a
separation of about 70 or 80 centimeters.
- Roll up the rug with the black pepper sachets and tie
the roll at the ends and center with string or tape. Store the roll in a
tightly closed rug storage bag or wrap the rug roll. In this way, the
appearance of humidity due to condensation and possible mold due to the
closure in plastic bags is avoided.
- Try to store it in a place with enough space to be
horizontal and not dent or hollow out.
- When you have to use it again, you have to anticipate
the moment of its use in advance since you will have to shake it, puff it
up, clean it and leave it lying in the open air for a few days so that it
loses the smell of pepper once it has been closed.
